I am first and foremost a single father of three adult children and grandpa of two. My children standing behind me, from left to right, John 31, my oldest son Micah 32, and my beautiful daughter Kirstin now 26. The beautiful baby is my granddaughter Alaina, now 8, and the pumpkin patch photo is of Alaina and her sister Adriana present day.
I began my first pest control company under another name in 1999. Shortly after beginning that company, circumstances in my personal life forced me to shut down that company and begin VERIKILL Pest Control Inc. I have been in business since 2002. I began my career and business solely on the commercial side of the business servicing, restaurants, hotels, hospitals, schools, and food processing plants. Eventually, I expanded into non-commercial work, dropping “industrial pest control” from the company name. We still have a significant presence in the industry, however, most of what we do is now non-commercial. There is no more technically complicated work than industrial pest control, therefore, while some may bring a hammer to pest control problems, we like to bring the bulldozer to get pest problems under control initially and then return with a hammer to keep things under control.
I started my company as a means to support myself and raise my children. I’m proud of how my children turned out, all three are professionals in medicine and the sciences. Pest control was not my first love, so I shut down company operations for a period of time to return to university and obtain my PhD. After conducting research in behavioral neuroscience for three years, I longed to leave the dingy lab and return to pest control. No day is ever the same, I am constantly challenged to grow as a tradesman, professional, scientist and businessman.
When I graduated from San Diego State University my favorite nephew Mathew gave me a pen inscribed with the phrase “Do Good Things.” If I have learned anything, it is that no one makes it in this life without the help of others, I hope I will someday get the honor of helping the person reading this with their pest control needs. Pest control has been my trade for over 25 years now; I look forward to meeting you and addressing your unique challenge.
